Knowing Who We Are, And Whose We Are

Verses to uplift the heart and soul...

It is possible to have peace in a world of constant strife and conflicts that arise both inward and outward...

When our trust is in the Lord, we don't have to fear... there are victory signs everywhere.

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in Him I will trust." (Psalm 91:1 & 2)

Today's Devotion: Jesus, Only Savior

Thanks be to God for sending His only begotten Son into the world to save sinners. Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is He, and He has gone to prepare a place for His children, so that where He is, there we may be also. Thomas said to Jesus, "Lord we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?" (John 14:5) Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." (John 14:6)

When Philip asked to see the Father, Jesus said, "He who has seen Me has seen the Father." (John 14:9) Jesus also declared in John 10:9, "I am the door. If any man enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture."

Praise Jesus, the image of the invisible God, our Great Shepherd of the sheep; full of grace and truth; the Word made flesh.

From a song of Moses:

"Give ear, O heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth. Let my teaching drop as the rain, my speech distill as the dew, as raindrops on the tender herb, and as showers on the grass. For I proclaim the name of the Lord: Ascribe greatness to our God. He is the Rock, His work is perfect; for all His ways are justice, a God of truth and without injustice; righteous and upright is He." (Deuteronomy 32:1-4)

There is salvation in no other name or means of entering the kingdom of God. "And He saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor: therefore His arm brought salvation unto Him, and His righteousness, it sustained Him." (Isaiah 59:16)

Adopted by God, He has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying "Abba, Father!" (Galatians 4:6) The Holy Spirit of truth teaches us and gives us spiritual understanding—We are the holy temple of God and if we abide in Him and His words abide in us, we grow in grace and are fruitful in the knowledge of Him, having become partakers of the divine nature and recipients of exceeding great and precious promises, in this life and the age to come.

"If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him and We will come to him and make our abode with him." (John 14:23) "God has given us eternal life and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life." (1 John 5:11 & 12)

"And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou has sent." (John 17:3)

A Life of Praise and Worship

David in Psalm 145:3 declared, "Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; and His greatness is unsearchable. His son Solomon in 1 Kings 8:27, declared, "But will God indeed dwell on earth Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain You. How much less this temple which I have built!"

Reflection:
It is said that this vast earth on which we live can fill the sun about one million times. What a thought! Now consider: there are things created far beyond what man can see or fathom, and the Great God who made them all, is worthy of our praise and worship. He has not made anything His equal.

A Prayer:
Lord God, we dedicate ourselves to You, the One True God. For we are Your temple in which Your Spirit dwells and Your temple is holy. We humbly bow in Your presence, to praise You and worship You, in spirit and in truth; now and throughout eternity. Amen.

Evening Devotion: Loving Grace

There she was, a young Moabite woman refusing to go back to her  people and their gods. Instead, insisting to be with her mother-in-law Naomi, who had come to Moab from Bethlehem in Judah with her husband Elimelech and their two sons Mahlon and Chilion, because of famine in the land.

While living in Moab, Naomi's husband and two sons died.  Ruth was the wife of Mahlon and Orpah was the wife of Chilion.

Having heard that the Lord had provided aid for His people at home, Naomi prepared to return to Bethlehem with her two daughters-in-law, but she later urged them to return to their families. Orpah did, but Ruth said, "Entreat me not to leave you, or to turn back from following after you; for wherever you go, I will go, and wherever you lodge, I will lodge; your people shall be my people, and your God, my God. Where you die, I will die, and there will I be buried. The Lord do so to me, and more also, if anything but death parts you and me." (Ruth 1:16-17)

So, they came to Bethlehem as the barley harvest was beginning.  Ruth went out and gleaned in a field belonging to Boaz, who greeted his workers with "The Lord be with you" and they replied, "The Lord bless you." What a beautiful display of mutual love and rapport.between them!

Christians are workers in God's field, fellow laborers in His kingdom. More than servants, we are his friends. He equips, He guides, and He blesses the work of our hands. We can do nothing without Him. To Him, be glory, honor and praise—Bless the Lord, the One who owns our lives!

Upon seeing Ruth, Boaz inquired whose damsel she was. The servant who was set over the reapers answered him that she was the young Moabite woman who came back from Moab with Naomi.

Boaz talked to Ruth and told her to stay in his field, not to go to another and that he had charged the young men not to touch her. He said to work with the maidens in the field and to drink from the vessels of water when she became thirsty. Ruth was amazed at his generous hospitality towards her, a foreigner. She asked him why she had found grace in his eyes and he told her that he had full knowledge of her loyalty and the kindness she had shown to her mother-in-law and of her willingness to leave her own family and native land to come to a people she didn't know before..

At mealtime, Boaz invited Ruth to eat of the bread and to dip her morsel in the vinegar. As she sat with the reapers, he reached her parched corn and she ate and was satisfied with some left over. As she got up to glean in the field, he commanded the young men not to reproach her. He also commanded them to let some handfuls fall on purpose so that she could have them to glean.

In the evening, she related the day's events to Naomi who asked about where she had worked and who had been so generous. She then tells Ruth that Boaz is a close relative, a next kinsman.

Ruth gleaned until the end of barley harvest and wheat harvest. The barley harvest occurs in March-April; Nisan on the Jewish calendar and the wheat harvest in May-June; Sivan on the Jewish calendar. In Judaism, the Passover festival commemorates God's deliverance of His people from bondage in Egypt and is associated with the barley harvest. The Pentecost festival (also known as Feast of Weeks) is a celebration of the first-fruits of the wheat harvest with wave offerings and sacrifices to God. (Later came to commemorate the giving of the law to Moses by God on Mount Sinai.) All significant to the Christian faith in that Christ became the Passover Lamb and Jesus told His disciples to tarry in Jerusalem for the promise of the Father—The Holy Spirit descended on them and filled them on the Day of Pentecost. They were empowered to go out and preach the gospel with power, themselves being transformed. And to this day, the Great Commission continues.

Boaz eventually acquired all that was Elimelech's and all that was Chilion's and Mahlon's from the hand of Naomi. He married Ruth who conceived and bore a son Obed, the father of Jesse, the father of David, from whose lineage came the Son of God.

Bless Jesus, our faithful Redeemer and gracious Lord forever and ever! The One who brought us into the fold; the One whose steadfast love never ceases; whose mercies never end. The One who is kind and tenderhearted and protective of His sheep. The One who is still calling people from every nation and tongue into His kingdom. The One who makes Himself known in every generation and season of our lives. The One who draws near to the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. The One who intercedes for us. The One who gives us power. The One whose church is His bride. The One who is worthy to be praised, from the rising of the sun to its going down.  Amen.

Today's Devotion: Fearfully and Wonderfully Made

O how He loves and cares for you and me! God made us in His image and according to His likeness, to reflect His glory. What a high calling!

"For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well. My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them. How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand; when I awake, I am still with You." (Psalm 139:13-18)

A Prayer:

Lord God, thank You for Your everlasting love and for redeeming us, seeing that we all have fallen short of the glory for which we were created, and like sheep, gone astray from Your purpose for our lives. Thank You for Your precious and innumerable thoughts towards us. Thank You for the joy of Your salvation, and the power to do your will. Thank You that we can live in Your presence now and forevermore. In Your holy name, we pray. Amen.

The Secret Place of the Most High

A Walk In The Garden Devotions
Today's Bible Reading:

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in Him I will trust." (Psalm 91:1 & 2)

Reflection on the entire Psalm:

Whatever dangers, toils and snares life may bring, God's children who are resting in Him and cultivating a deeper relationship with Him, can rejoice, for Almighty God takes delight in those who love and trust Him and His great power is made manifest on their behalf.

A Prayer:

Thank You Heavenly Father for Your love and care for us. Thank You Lord God for faith to believe in You and the confidence You have put in the hearts of Your children. Thank You for Your Word that nourishes our hearts and minds and gives us strength. Thank You for the power of the Holy Spirit at work in our lives. Thank You for Your church triumphant! In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Inspiration for the Christian Journey

Good morning and Happy Wednesday!

"Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it." (Matthew 7:13 & 14)

On this Christian journey, the Lord has promised never to leave us nor forsake us. He has given us His peace, His joy and all sufficient grace. He is with us every step of the way and the path like the light of dawn, shines brighter and brighter until the full light of day!

A Prayer:
Thank You Lord for being the way, the truth and the life. In Your holy name, we pray. Amen.

Come and Drink, Live in the Fullness of God's Grace

In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, "If any man thirst, let him come unto Me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water." (John 7:37 & 38)

A Prayer:

Thank You Lord God for the Holy Spirit whom You have given to those who believe in You and the promise of eternal life. In a dry and thirsty land, we need You more and more. We pray that Your Word will run swiftly in all the earth and be glorified. Draw souls by Your power—to come, to drink, to live in the fullness of Your grace. In Your holy name, we pray. Amen.
