Our True Treasure of Joy and Rejoicing

Long-suffering God is righteous and just in all that He does. In Jeremiah Chapter 15, God declared a severe punishment on Judah. So much so, that He said, "Even if Moses and Samuel stood before Me, My mind would not  be favorable toward this people. Cast them out of My sight, and let them go forth." (Jeremiah 15:1)

The prophet Jeremiah, a man called by God to speak His words to a rebellious people, found himself pleading with God for mercy. He lamented his own birth and desired deliverance from his persecutors.

He put God in remembrance of his faithfulness to the call of God upon His life. He said, "O Lord, You know; remember me and visit me, and take vengeance for me on my persecutors. In Your enduring patience, do not take me away. Know that for Your sake I have suffered rebuke. Your words were found, and I ate them, and Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart; for I am called by Your name, O Lord God of hosts." (Jeremiah 15:15 & 16)

The prophet also complained in His affliction: "For You have filled me with indignation. Why is my pain perpetual and my wound incurable, which refuses to be healed? Will You surely be to me like an unreliable stream, as waters that fail?"(Jeremiah 15:18)

In Jeremiah 15:19-20, God set forth conditions for Jeremiah to continue in right standing before Him, with promises of His divine presence and protection. He reinforced to the prophet his calling with words He spoke concerning his purpose and mission in life. (See also Chapter 1.)

Our faithful Savior who called us, has promised never to leave us nor forsake us. He is with us in our trials and tribulations, in our joys and in our sorrows.

The Lord God of hosts is our true treasure of joy and rejoicing! Feast on His word; trust and obey. Amen.

Evening Meditation

"I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy Word above all thy name." (Psalm 138:2)

Reflection:
God has magnified His Word above His name. Meditating upon this should leave one in awe with a hope-filled soul. Every word God has spoken is true — every instruction, every prophecy, every promise. God's Word cannot fail; His Word cannot be destroyed. Trust and obey. Rest sweetly in His care.

Morning Glory: A Daily Serving of God's Word

The Future Glory of Zion
(Isaiah 35)

The wilderness and the wasteland shall be glad for them, and the desert shall rejoice and blossom as the rose; it shall blossom abundantly and rejoice, even with joy and singing. The glory of Lebanon shall be given to it, the excellence of Carmel and Sharon. They shall see the glory of the Lord, the excellency of our God.

Strengthen the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees. Say to those who are fearful-hearted, "Be strong, do not fear! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God; He will come and save you."

Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. Then the lame shall leap like a deer, and the tongue of the dumb sing. For waters shall burst forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert. The parched ground shall become a pool, and the thirsty land springs of water; in the habitation of jackals, where each lay, there shall be grass with reeds and rushes.

A highway shall be there, and a road, and it shall be called the Highway of Holiness. The unclean shall not pass over it, but it shall be for others. Whoever walks the road, although a fool, shall not go astray. No lion shall be there, nor shall any ravenous beast go up on it; it shall not be found there. But the redeemed shall walk there, and the ransomed of the Lord shall return, and come to Zion with singing, with everlasting joy on their heads. They shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

Scripture Meditation (Isaiah 55:10-11)

God's Word:
For as the rain comes down and the snow from heaven, and do not return there, but water the earth, and make it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

Words of Comfort From God's Word

Words of Comfort:

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you. (Isaiah 43:2-3)

Cast thine burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain thee. He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved. (Psalm 55:22)

He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might, He increases strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall, but those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40:29-31)

Life Manual For Victorious Living

Devotional

Wisdom from on High
The teachings of the Lord are our manual for victorious living. So much of what Jesus teaches is simple in its presentation, but yet so many find it difficult to grasp and to do as he commands, but the Holy Spirit teaches us. Christ desires that we come to him and learn of him. We forfeit so many blessings if we don’t humbly sit at his feet and learn. Worldly wisdom pales in comparison to heavenly wisdom; it is foolishness to God. (1 Corinthians 3:19)

We ought to reckon that as important as it is to be educated about the world in which we live, such learning should not take the preeminence, exalting men and fables over the knowledge of God the Creator.

Paul the Apostle was a brilliant man by earthly and religious standards, but when God apprehended him, he concluded that all his achievements were but “dung.” He knew that salvation was not to be found in any of these things, not even his religious credentials.

Armed with faith and the knowledge of Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of his sufferings, we can attain to the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

“Therefore let no man glory in men. For all things are yours. Whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life or death, or things present, or things to come, all are yours. And ye are Christ’s, and Christ is God’s.” (1 Corinthians 3:21-22)

SCRIPTURE MEDITATIONS:
1 Corinthians Chapter 1; 1 Corinthians Chapter 2; Philippians Chapter 3.

Humility
When thou are bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room, lest a more honorable man than thou be bidden of him; and he that bade thee and him come and say to thee, “Give this man place,” and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room. But when thou are bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room, that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, “Friend, go up higher.” Then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee. For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased, and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. (Luke14:8-11)

Kindness
When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbors, lest they also bid thee again and a recompense be made thee. But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind, and thou shall be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee, for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just. (Luke 14:12-14)
